Law Firms Are You Basing Hiring Decisions On Eq
Developing the Next Generation of Rainmakers Law Firms: Are You Basing Hiring Decisions on âEQâ? If you read my post on Tuesday, you know I had surgery that morning. The surgeon had come highly recommended and I am sure he did a great job. But, heâs also just a good guy. He knows how to interact with his patients. Years ago, my old law firm only hired students in the top 10% of their class at law schools of a certain tier. I thought this was a big mistake and told our leaders we were getting very smart students with little or no people skills. (As an aside, even though I had finished number 3 in my law school class, Iâm not sure my law school would have been a high enough tier for me to get hired by our firm.) If all we wanted were lawyers who could research and write, then we were on the right track. But if we wanted lawyers who could connect with clients and potential clients, we could do better. When I mentioned the importance of hiring students with Emotional Intelligence (EQ) I received a blank stare. A couple of years ago I wrote: What Skills do Rainmakers Have? In that post I discussed some of the EQ traits I see in rainmakers and future rainmakers I coach. In 2011, I wrote: If Med Schools Look At More Than Grades, Why Shouldnât Law Schools and Law Firms? The other day I was searching for something and came across a Huffington Post article: Future Lawyers Should Be Screened and Trained for Empathy. It supported the points I made in my 2011 blog post, but included information I didnât know. If you have a few minutes, I think you will find it interesting. At the beginning you will find a reference to a post about training doctors to have empathy. This quote reminded me of my surgeon. While we all want great medical care, we also want doctors who listen to us and convey empathyâ"an understanding of our feelings and concerns, reflected in a warm demeanor. This can help us to trust and feel connected to them. But that combination can be hard to findâ¦. Arenât clients looking for the same combination? I practiced law for 37 years developing a national construction law practice representing some of the top highway and transportation construction contractors in the US.

Thinking About Majoring In Psychology Think Again
Thinking about majoring in Psychology? Think again. CBS Moneywatch lately released a listing of the college majors with the best unemployment charges. Five of the record of 25 majors are related to psychology. âIronically,â the accompanying article goes on to say, âPsychology is the fifth hottest college diploma.â Those numbers are in all probability associated, of course; I attempt to convince jobseekers that they need to contemplate professions where competition is much less fierce. In faculty, that normally means where the classes are far more demanding. There are always a few seats left empty in advanced Physics lessons. The top five unemployed majors include: The Psychology majors I know took courses as a result of theyâre fascinated by what makes people tick. Itâs not surprising that the people who responded to my request for interviews had been both ladies; women outnumber male graduates in Psychology by a ratio of 3:1. My cousin Stefani Haar, now a 39-12 months-old professional based in Wisconsin, had done some vol unteer work in a bunch house and liked the concept she might do one thing for an additional particular person. âIt appeared so rewarding,â she says. She acknowledged that Social Work was the more employable diploma, but pursuing a graspâs diploma wasnât an possibility early in her profession. She obtained almost no assist from her highschool counselors, but did get assist from her parents, who were happy that she made the decision to pursue school (beginning somewhat later in life at 25.) She now works in an Oncology division, offering resources and knowledge to people who have cancer, and her training is a vital part of her talent set. Local entrepreneur and HR skilled Suzanne K. Lemen started out as a enterprise main and âabsolutely hated accounting.â Her high school counselors were not useful, either; âI was the valedictorian and I guess they thought that I had it planned. I figured that I would both be a minister or an legal professional, and the psych courses woul d help with each. â She says that she knew she had a âcounselingâ sort character and ultimately pursued Human Resources after her Psychology degree because it gave her an opportunity to work on the individuals facet of business. Psychology departments stress that the major construct skills that employers worth: crucial pondering, downside solving, tolerance for ambiguity, and teamwork. About forty percent of Psychology majors go on to attain a graduate diploma, according to a 2011 report to the State of Floridaâs University Systemâs Board of Governors employees. The report touted the worth and rigor of the B.S. degree in Psychology, however referred repeatedly to âentry stage jobsâ as the office value of the diploma. According to the report, only 25 p.c of Psychology graduates work in the field of psychology. The report cited the nationwide employers that particularly search for Psychology majors. Their examples included Wal-Mart, Target, Pizza Hut and Sears. That migh t explain why the Bureau of Labor Statistics quotes a wage vary of $21,900 to $27,200 for 2001 psychology graduates. The Psychology majors I know are bright, articulate and profitable, and they donât regret their alternative in majors. They know that job satisfaction is not at all times measured in cash. Thatâs an excellent thing. According to CNN Money, in 2011, Business majors noticed the largest bump of all faculty graduates in presents, with the common wage offer rising nearly 2% to $48,089. Published by candacemoody Candaceâs background consists of Human Resources, recruiting, training and evaluation. Heres How to Make a Career Change, According to a CEO Coach
Here's How to Make a Career Change, According to a CEO Coach My previous understudy accepted the primary position he was offered out of school. Cold pitching in deals was not something he at any point saw himself doing or exceeding expectations atâ"yet he did. He figured he would remain in deals until he found a promoting position. After ten years, he's still in deals, with a way of life that doesn't effectively fit beginning once again. He has an inclination that he's botched his chance. Work, family, network, companions. Each accompany their own delights and requests on your time and vitality. You put one foot before the other gathering cutoff times, going to class, taking care of tabs, strolling the canine, and thinking about others. Among every one of these needs, you can stall out in a vocation that isn't satisfying or doesn't utilize the ranges of abilities you would have liked to create. You may twist to others' desires for who you ought to turn into. Desire can go to lack of concern: You're progressing admirably, and isn't unreasonably adequate? I've seen this with individuals I've instructed. They become OK with their jobs, maintaining a strategic distance from the vulnerability of seeking after something they generally needed to do. I worked with a craftsman who went into publicizing, and a stockbroker who needed to turn into a secondary school math instructor. They thought that it was simpler to continue doing what they were doing than going after what they truly needed. Be that as it may, it's consistently conceivable to roll out an improvement, regardless of which period of life you're in. Here are some significant strategies to assist you with getting unstuck in your vocation. Start by Identifying Your Heroes The one thing that will keep you away from accomplishing your fullest potential is an absence of vision. The initial step is to be straightforward with yourself about what you need to do in your vocation, association, and life. Allow yourself to consider the main thing to you. This doesn't really imply that you quit your place of employment (in spite of the fact that it may for a few). It implies that you have discussions with yourself about yourself. You can ask yourself: On the off chance that I had an enchantment wand, what might I do? I as of late ran a workshop with individuals who thought that it was hard to let themselves consider what could be straightaway or what they esteem. I had them consider somebody that they respectâ"either from history or in their family, legislative issues, and so on. At the point when we investigated their good examples it made them fully aware of what they need in their own lives. At that point we made reasonable activity designs around how to change what they were doing or fabricate a greater amount of what they esteemed into their everyday. Change the Way You Talk to Yourself On the off chance that you disclose to yourself it's past the point of no return, or you are in too far, you will crush your capacity to roll out an improvement. Continually discussing motivations to go ahead or not will keep you in a similar spot. Typically, we are alright with language that underpins thoughts and practices that have gotten us to where we are. Utilizing various words can trigger the mind to connect with its progressively agreeable arrangement of reasoning, subliminally battling your developing new thoughts. Be that as it may, another dialect will assist you with reworking your cerebrum to think in an unexpected way, the antecedent to acting in an unexpected way. Utilizing new words resembles learning another dialect. Exploration has exhibited that individuals who are bilingual trigger distinctive mind action in the prefrontal cortex, the front of the cerebrum, that is liable for arranging and following up on data. Making another dialect for yourself thinks carefully in an unexpected way, at last making increasingly psychological adaptability and, in the long run, new activities. So give close consideration to the language you use when discussing your profession. In the event that you state I can't take part in new exercises, change it into I can have a go at something other than what's expected. Ideas, for example, I shouldn't harp on what I'm not putting my time in can transform into I will attempt to put my time in something I need to do. And in case you're worn out from work chasing, convert I won't converse with another enrollment specialist into I will hear what she needs to state. The thought is to communicate in a language that makes opportunities for change. Get Honest About Your Strengths and Opportunities I as of late ran a workshop on Finding Your Next for proficient ladies. One member was a 20-year corporate media veteran who consistently needed to compose a novel. She thought it was past the point of no return in her vocation. Be that as it may, she took a bookkeeping of her own qualities: she was a decent and brisk essayist who dealt with her time well. And furthermore overviewed her chances: she had no wards living at home and had recently finished a commitment with a nearby cause. She understood that she had time and want, and the main thing in her way was her attitude. She decided to get unstuck. During her excursion she went on an essayists' retreat to diagram her novel and build up her characters with a mentor and different scholars. Presently she's on her way. You can do a similar exercise for yourself. Ask yourself what your qualities are, and what abilities may should be created. I once instructed an effective corporate legal counselor who cherished the law however felt numb in her enormous firm. She needed to make a training in the philanthropic division, however didn't accept she had the bookkeeping and promoting aptitudes to maintain a business all alone. Keeping her own books, charging customers, and ensuring they took care of their tabs was more than she needed to consider. After some goading, she took a crack at business courses. It took a couple of years, yet she's presently rehearsing in her own firm, and is so effective she employed a record the executives individual and took on a partner. Offer Your Goals with Your Current Employer At the point when great representatives share their vision with officials, their profession ways can change in sudden and satisfying manners. A mid-careerist in money consistently held a fantasy about instructing lacrosse. He accepted the game developed control and cooperation, two abilities he needed to encourage in his own kids. There was just a single issue: No open doors existed for him to start instructing in neighboring schools. He communicated this to a colleague throughout a break at a quarterly gathering. The CFO happened to catch him. After fourteen days, he was leading the production of an organization supported lacrosse club for his colleagues. He additionally was before long advanced. There's no motivation to smother what you feel enthusiastic about. Most bosses need great representatives to be fulfilledâ"this isn't just unselfish, yet may bring about a progressively drew in and steadfast laborer. Causing space in your life for endeavoring toward your vision to can assist you with growing new abilities and carry a feeling of direction to what you do. So slowly inhale, cut out some time, and dream on.

Master Class in Personal Brandingâ"Lesson 2: The Resume Isnât Dead Yet (But Itâs Not Helping You, Either) âThe stories of my demise have been tremendously exaggerated.â -Mark Twain As we covered within the earlier post in this sequence, personal branding is a real opportunity to establish what's important to you and to clearly talk your unique differences and qualities to guide your profession by using your strengths, abilities, passions and values to separate yourself from your competitors. But how do you talk all that with career advertising paperwork that replicate the new strategy to job seeking? Resumes within the New World of Work With know-how driving much of the best way we go about finding a job, there have been quite a few articles and reviews trumpeting the impending end of the resumeâ"which is premature at greatest and, at worst, has proven to be an exaggeration. However, when you think about a number of the following statistics, you can understand why many hiring managers, HR professionals and recruiters donât take the resume as a doc of truth: â23% of seven,000 resumes had misrepresentation.â -Christian & Timbers âforty four% work historical past inaccuracies â" forty one% false schooling credentials.â -ADP Screening & Selection of 2.6 million resumes âsixty one% of HR professionals found inaccuracies after background checks.â -Society of Human Resource Management And itâs not simply the resume that has employers involved and wanting extra concrete proof of a candidateâs success. Insights from different surveys embody: âEmployee fraud prices corporations $one hundred twenty billio n a year.â âEmployers lose 72% of negligent hiring fits.â â7% of all job candidates have a legal report.â The resume as a profession advertising document certainly has its place. And whereas the death of the resume keeps being predicted with the appearance of more technology, it will likely be a very long time before we see it disappearing or being changed utterly. However, the normal job search is changing, and with that, the method and the documents used within the job search want to change as properly. The Power of Personal Branding It has been quoted for many years that the overwhelming majority of positions at the moment are being crammed via referrals and networking. Certainly within the present world of work, employee referrals are a rapidly rising supply of new hires for many firmsâ"in some instances, representing 50% or greater. The added use of social media to faucet into private networks and contacts will only see this number rise. But for the job seeker, these forms of job looking out (referrals or networking) is probably not one of the simplest ways to secure an employerâs interest in your distinctive skills and experience. This is particularly relevant should you or your referrer have little or no understanding of job alternatives out there or the way you may slot in. Job seekers, grateful for the introduction, blindly hand over their resumes to be handed on down the road, instantly losing much of the management over how they position themselves to be perceived. They may not even have the name of t he hiring supervisor or the contact who will be dealing with their software, and now theyâve diminished their chances of having much affect within the process. Anyone in mid-career (with at least 10 years of professional expertise) is definitely able to supplying sufficient info to put in writing a three-6 page resume (not the accepted length!) somewhat than a 1-2 web page targeted resume. The bother is that if an organization is hiring for a variety of positions and is accepting referrals, you may be suitable for more than one function primarily based in your experience, however your generic resume is a possible barrier to your being thought of. It also needs to be remembered that there shall be many cases where a job hasnât been posted or marketed. Companies are far more prepared and likely to be looking out for good expertise, then create a place for them, or to have been working âgentleâ till they arrive throughout the right candidate. Thatâs the place private branding can are available in to create completely different profession advertising paperwork as door openers, giving a job seeker time and, hopefully, higher knowledge to follow up with a targeted resume as soon as specifics of a place or openings are identified. Discovering Your Personal Brand Some of the important thing elements of private branding are to know yourself from each an inside and exterior perspective. Being capable of establish and talk your key strengths and differentiating attributes can be used to your advantage in creating highly effective career paperwork that make folks take discover, yet donât give away all of your data in one go. Unique paperwork that give people who donât know you an actual sense of who you are and what youâre capable of make a lot more sense than a dry, 1-2 page resume. In order to create these paperwork, though, you first need to identify your personal model. Letâs start with some questions: What Do You Know About Yourself? âUse what talent you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best.â -Henry Van Dyke How typically do you're taking time to mirror on your strengths? Many professionals are very poor at spending enough time on their own personal development within the form of a regular evaluation of their skills and skills. In reality, it'd only be in their annual reviews that they do that, and those experiences are not all the time very constructive ones. If youâve ever needed to endure a efficiency appraisal, the standard catalogue of occasions can run like this: Fill in very lengthy self-evaluation type taking a look at all areas of your performance over the last yr. Seek the input of friends, colleagues and managers. Sit down with supervisor for an hour to evaluate the entire above. Spend the primary 5 minutes reflecting on your strengths. Spend the remaining 55 minutes figuring out, dissecting, analyzing and navel-gazing at your weaknesses. Create an motion plan around how you'll convey your weaknesses as much as an (at finest) common level of efficiency. Feel like youâre treading water and never progressing as fast as you want to. Repeat yearly to the point of absolute frustration. Some may view this as somewhat simplistic or harsh, however the reality is that only 42% of Americans consider that working totally on their strengths will make them more profitable. (That drops to an alarming 24% of Japanese and Chinese workers.) Now, Discover Your Strengths by Marcus Buckingham and Donald Clifton tackles this subject head-on and is a extremely really helpful read for anyone excited about building their private model by way of understanding their key strengths. Very often, itâs difficult for us to articulate our top strengths and how they may be reflected in our careers so far. This e-book provides you a chance to take the âStrengths Finderâ evaluation online and have your top 5 strengths recognized with explanations. You ca n then take this data and create your examples, or tales, of how you could have used every power in a piece scenario. So in interviews, you receivedât solely be itemizing what you think about your strengths to be, but in addition giving reference and context with a concrete instanceâ"very powerful and memorable when the interviewer is doing a review on the end of the day. There are many assessments and tests that may be taken to understand extra about yourself, nevertheless itâs better to find one or two that resonate and make sense to you, and work with those, than to take a battery of tests which might be extra likely to confuse than verify. Another good advertising exercise to conduct is a SWOT evaluation (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats). In each area, ask yourself these questions: Strengths â" What are my strengths? What do I have that's positive that can help me obtain my objectives? Weaknesses â" What are my weaknesses? Where am I challenged essentiall y the most? Opportunities â" If I were in a position to overcome those weaknesses and make the most of my strengths, what is going to result for me? What is the upside? Threats â" What is the draw back if I don't handle these challenges? Itâs not enough simply to concentrate on your strengths. Take the time to discover in case you have other hidden talents, either by way of your own analysis or from the suggestions of others (ideally both). The basis of strong private manufacturers is constructed partly on maximizing strengths. Okay, we now have a great sense of what we think, however what about othersâ perceptions? In the following publish, we look at âWhat Others Would Say About You.â Known by his clients as The Career Hacker, Paul Copcutt was described by Forbes magazine as a world main personal brand expert. Paul helps folks uncover their uniqueness and communicate it in an genuine means that gets them observed and remembered, for the right reasons. Over the years, he has impressed and labored with hundreds of people from entrepreneurs to Fortune 500 executives, and he often speaks to business audiences across North America. Inspiration from the Trees
Motivation from the Trees Motivation from the Trees Motivation from the Trees Cost is regularly a reality while making mechanical technology. Peko Hosoi, teacher of mechanical designing at MIT, and her group knew this well and as of late asked: Could downsizing diminish costs for little robots? Its intense for a ton of mechanical technology on account of the requirement for valves and siphons. They need more tight and more tight parts that need to machine down and they become costly, she says. To get a servo valve that was a cubic centimeter can be staggeringly costly per valve. That is not in any event, for nano. Would we be able to reconsider frameworks to where puts in nature and frameworks include together to little, modest parts? Her group chose trees and plants gave a potential answer since they have little segments that make a goliath siphon when consolidated together, she says. The group went to deal with what might in the long run lead to a microfluidic siphon to help little mechanical autonomy, called a tree on a chip, with the thought, in addition to other things, of an outside siphon not being essential. With trees, there is a sugar channel and water channel and water streams into the sugar channel and drives the stream, she says, at the same time, when its done rapidly, it isn't perfect for mechanical autonomy. Our test was the manner by which to have siphoning at a steady stream rate, she says. Trees have this sort of gas tank and the leaves are photosynthesizing and creating sugars. So you have to have that sort of tank that couples with the phloem, which is the sugar-water piece, which is then in contact with xylem. Its including a third piecenot simply sugar and water, yet additionally requiring a source that is metered into the sugar-water channel. Like its regular partners, the chip works inactively, requiring no moving parts or outer siphons. It can siphon water and sugars at a consistent stream rate for a few days. Picture: MIT They ran the framework with dextranliterally a little store of itand isolated that from the sugar water channel with a film that permits dextran particles to go through at a consistent rate, Hosoi says. We likewise ran it with a sugar 3D shape. We laser cut two or three bits of acrylic and we laser cut a little opening for the sugar 3D square and space it in, she clarifies. Furthermore, the sugar solid shape just goes for a considerable length of time. They were additionally taking a gander at the proportion of stream rate. Its about inquiries like what sorts of weights would this be able to produce and stream rates would it be able to create? she says. The estimation is truly straightforward. You have the siphon and connect it to a long, slim narrow and the liquid begins to descend the hairlike and you track the interface of the liquid as it descends the fine. It mentions to you what the stream rate is. We can gauge what sorts of weights these siphons can create. We measure stream rates and weights for various layers and what the film does is it sets the convergence of the sugar in the sugar channel. With the genuine drivers behind the work being an enthusiasm for cost investment funds with regular frameworks that are acceptable at arriving at exceptionally complex structures and practices in gadgets, she says its something numerous in the ME field ought to consider. We are acceptable at modest intricacy with the appearance of transistors and incorporated circuit sheets, she says. In mechanical, we simply need to contemplate this. Eric Butterman is an autonomous essayist. For Further Discussion Our test was the manner by which to have siphoning at a steady stream rate. Trees have this sort of gas tank and the leaves are photosynthesizing and creating sugars.Prof. Peko Hosoi, MIT

3 Must Have Gadgets For Fun Biking
3 Must Have Gadgets For Fun Biking Its that time of year again. Time to get the bike down from the hooks in the garage and make it road ready. I found some interesting new gear to make summer biking a little more fun. None break the bank, so theyre all worth a look. Phone Holder I dont know about you, but I am so done with dropping and breaking my phone. And on the bike, putting it in a secure location has meant I couldnt hear notifications. Which sorta defeats the purpose of bringing the phone along! Theres a lot of similar looking mounts out there, so I was hesitant to get any for fear of spending money on one that didnt really do the job. Based on reviews, I got one made by Odier and gave it a shot. Turned out to be a great choice! Easy to attach, adjustable, and my phone didnt budge from the easily-installed position. Plus, because the mount has a tilt adjustment, its possible to use your phone as a GPS or a bike dashcam. I tried both and they work great! On a scale of one to ten for recommending, this one gets a ten. . . . . . Theft Deterrence I call it deterrence because we all know if the thief really wants your stuff, hes going to take it. But they usually go for the easier target and if its not yours, you win! I had my bike stolen when I was in college, and how much worse a time could there be? Lets face it, when youre in college youre not exactly making bank. The problem with most bike security isnt necessarily the security itself, its that bikes are so easy to grab and go with. And GPS trackers are okay but there are two big problems with them. One, the thief usually gets them indoors pretty quickly and you lose the signal. And two, theres no way Im going to go confront the thief even if I knew where he was! That leaves deterrence. I found a pretty basic but reliable alarm called the Urban UR6 that has a light and sound alarm that goes off when the bike is moved. Designed for motorcycles or bikes, on the bike its installed in the spokes, so it also deters the would-be thief from riding quickly away. I havent had a real-life test yet (and hopefully wont!), but Im thinking once the alarm starts the thief is going to move on to an easier target. Protecting Your Backside How many times have you said *%#! when you got plastered with a narrow streak right up your back? I really hate that. This incredibly simple and cheap invention is out of sight until you need it, and then goes to work to keep the mud where it belongs. Which is anywhere but on you! Ass Savers come in a variety of models and will pay for themselves the first time you dont ruin that favorite biking shirt. A must-have! The products above have been reviewed based on personal use. One of the products was provided by the manufacturer, but all reviews are the authors unbiased opinions.

Apply BHAGs and Boldness On Your Drive for Success - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Apply BHAGs and Boldness On Your Drive for Success - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career In the first year and a half of his presidency Woodrow Wilson, Americaâs 28th President, was able to have enacted four major pieces of legislation of his vision branded The New Freedom. These included major tariff reform, and the establishment of the Federal Trade Commission and what serves today as the Federal Reserve and central banking system. At the conclusion of these victories in June, 2014, 18 months after his inauguration, Wilson said, âthere is nothing that succeeds in life like boldness, provided you believe you are on the right side.â Eighty years later in 1994 in the book Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies authors Jim Collins and Jerry Porras suggest something termed the Big Hairy Audacious Goal (known as BHAG for short, pronounced BEE-hag), which offers a framework for companies to incorporate Wilsonâs concept of boldness into the workplace. A few weeks ago in facilitating a strategic planning session with the board of directors of one of the larger not-for-profit agencies in my area, we introduced the concept of the BHAG. It truly changed the conversation and the focus of the entire board retreat. The executive director of the agency embraced it and really went for it. He proclaimed his BHAG is to turn the agencyâs funding sources upside down so that it can become self-sufficient within five years and relying on virtually no governmental funding. For 20-years this agency has subsisted on 98% of its funding from government sources, but in this new economy those resources are starting to wither away. The ED knows the agency is going to have to become more entrepreneurial. At this agency, only ten-percent of the board of directors are business people and could be considered entrepreneurial. The rest are former government employees, educators and academics, and some consumers of the agencys services. They were understandably skeptical of the capabilities of the agency to achieve this BHAG. The power of the BHAGâs boldness is its ability to force people to think differently and to begin project assets and strengths onto opportunities in new ways, never before considered. BHAGs work for individuals, too, and are a great way to build a personal brand. Boldness backed by self-belief, with activity to back it up, is extremely attractive. In mid-2012 my business coach challenged me to set a BHAG for my business, which was to double my companyâs revenue for 2013, Iâm excited to report that as of July 31st I am on pace to do just that. BHAGs are usually longer-term goals. Collins Porras offer them as 10-30 year visions but also say there can be shorter, interim BHAGs to generate focus along the way. So, let me encourage you to do just that. Letâs set a 10-year BHAG and an interim BHAG for the year-end 2014. If you were going to be truly bold, more bold than youâve ever been, what is something you would aspire to for year-end 2023, just 10-years away? Then, letâs set an interim BHAG for year-end 2014, just 16 months from now. Let us all take the advice of Americaâs 28th president and bring more boldness to our approach from this day forward. Happy Fourth Birthday to the Job Mob blog! - Executive Career Brandâ¢
Happy Fourth Birthday to the Job Mob blog! One of my favorite bloggers, Jacob Share, recently celebrated the 4th anniversary of his excellent JobMob blog. A job search expert on the highest level, Jacob understands and prolifically writes about personal branding, search strategies, social networking, blogging and all the other essentials in landing a job today. The blogs motto is all together now. Jacob is inclusive and generous with his careers industry colleagues, and pretty much everyone. I dont know where he finds the time to help so many people and do all the things he does. No wonder he has built such a loyal community of evangelists. The fact that he has a sense of humor about it all doesnt hurt either! A lot happens on JobMob â" from contests, events and frequent polls, to opportunities for other bloggers to contribute as guest authors. With 2.5 million page views last year and over 7,000 subscribers to date, the blog must also be on many othersâ list of favorites. The founder of Share Select Media, Jacobs business revolves around designing and innovating new kinds of blogs and building web communities. Heâs offering a free ebook, The Ultimate Twitter Job Search Guide, and promising that another book (or two) is in the works. I asked Jacob to share a bit of advice on job search: My favorite job search tip is to learn how to job search in the first place. Most people simply dont know how. One of the reasons Ive gone so deep into the job search field is because I got tired of seeing so many people including myself, twice in the past waste time prolonging their searches needlessly, losing money, getting depressed, you name it. If people just took the time to learn relevant job search fundamentals, a lot of suffering could be avoided. Another favorite is to build a strong personal brand so that the job offers come to you instead of you having to search for them. Congratulations, Jacob, on 4 years of blogging excellence on all things job search! Related posts: Worldâs Top 10 Best Corporate Blogs Youâre a C-level Executive Job Seeker and Youâre NOT Blogging?
